Townsville's state-of-the-art treatment facilities have been designed to produce one of the most valuable resources for any city - recycled water.
Replacing outdated equipment with state-of-the-art treatment facilities means less noise, odour and emissions and significant benefits for the community and environment.
These include:
- reduced Nitrogen and Phosphorus in treated wastewater, limiting the occurrence of algal blooms and death of valuable seagrasses
- enabling irrigation of local sports fields and other green spaces, including establishing and maintaining the Dry Tropics Rainforest
- conserving valuable drinking water
- providing higher quality treated wastewater in lower volumes for discharge into the environment
