Welcome to the Water Matters Alliance (WMA) website.
This site has been maintained to provide information about WMA projects, upgrading the wastewater management network in Townsville and on Magnetic Island. While the bulk of construction work on the WMA projects is now successfully complete, the Alliance will maintain a local presence until 2010, involved in continual process improvement, handover and advice.
All these projects have been completed and successfully delivered state-of-the-art wastewater management facilities to the region.
As a direct consequence of WMA work, Magnetic Island is one of Queensland's first "zero outfall" communities and Townsville boasts one of the worlds largest membrane bioreactor wastewater treatment facilities, producing high quality recycled water suitable for civic and industrial reuse.
